|Trip dates: July 5-17
Destinations: Las Vegas, Anaheim, San Diego
Who went: Tim, Erik (21), Keri (15) and myself
We headed for the West Coast for the first time this summer. We decided to fly from Philly to Las Vegas, get a rental car, drive to Anaheim and then to San Diego area.
July 5 – Left for Philly from NE PA around 2. On the way down it poured – the only rain we saw on the entire trip J -- and got car parked and shuttled over to airport. We flew SW and luckily had A boarding passes because plane was completely filled. Arrived in Las Vegas around 9 p.m. (PT), did airport checkin for Flamingo Hotel, got rental car, took the short drive from airport to the strip and by 10 p.m. had dumped the luggage in the room and were ready to head out to the strip. We had a strip view room on the 19th floor with a great view of the Bellagio fountains and many of the hotels on the strip.
Tim and Erik started “exploring” the casinos while Keri and I just walked along the strip. We were supposed to meet up with Cru and her DH so we gave them a call and ended up meeting them by the Bellagio fountains and stayed to watch two shows. We walked around with them for a while until we found Tim & Erik and ended up going up to Cru’s room at Imperial Palace to check out the view from the balcony. We wandered back downstairs in IP, watched the dealertainers a bit. By this time it was after midnight (PT) which meant our East Coast bodies were functioning way past our bedtime. So we headed back to the Flamingo and a few hours sleep!
July 6 – We slept in a bit, but Tim and I were up by 10 and headed for some breakfast. When we returned to the room, the kids were still sleeping – teenagers and college students are on their own sleep/wake schedule. After everyone was finally up, we headed out. The guys went one direction while Keri and I began exploring the strip. She and I had lunch in Harrah’s Carnival Court, entertained by a decent band and the juggling bartenders. We spent the afternoon exploring and had lots of fun in M&M World, where we even stopped to see the 3-D movie (a little hokey, but at least it was air-conditioned!). We met up with Tim & Erik in time for dinner and headed for Ellis Island, a local restaurant/casino where for $4.95 you get a complete 12-oz. Sirloin dinner. While we were there, Cru and her DH called. When we told them where we were, they said they were heading there and they arrived a few minutes later. We visited with them for a while and decided to meet up later after dinner. Cru, Keri and I hung out for a while while the guys went over to the Rio where the World Poker Tour was having their tournament. We dropped Keri off at Flamingo around 9 and then headed out to wander around and meet guys. Erik and Cru’s DH ended up playing in a poker tournament at the Imperial Palace and Tim and I headed back to room shortly after midnight. Erik wandered in sometime around 2 a.m. a little lighter in the pocket than when he had started out the day, but he enjoyed playing in the tournament.
July 7 – Another day to sleep in a little. We really didn’t have much planned for the day and just spent most of it on the strip, doing some shopping and the guys wandered in and out of casinos. Keri and I had a lot of fun shopping in Desert Passage mall in Aladdin. She spent a LONG time deciding between two cowboy hats for an upcoming Kenny Chesney concert. Finally, the comments from two other customers convinced her which to pick – when the one guy just walked by and exclaimed, “That hat is really you!” that sort of did if for her. It was really hot in the afternoon so we didn’t spend too much time outside. We headed to Margaritaville for dinner and then Tim, Erik, Cru and her DH had fun playing roulette for a few hours in the evening. After saying goodbye to Cru and her DH, we headed back to the room by midnight because we were leaving early in the A.M. for Anaheim and our first trip to Disneyland!!!
